Nose and Chin Correction

Nose and Chin Correction. The nose gives the face a profile. Therefore it should fit harmoniously into the whole picture. The aesthetic is dependent on individual size, shape and proportion. Patients who want to undergo nose surgery have usually been bothered by their nose for a long time. They know exactly what bothers them. Often there is a hump on the nasal bridge, or the nose is simply too big. In particular, the nose is not aesthetically ideal. It is too big, too wide, or points downwards. However patients with deformities as the result of an accident also come to plastic surgeons for correction.

Before every nasal operation, Lege Artis carries out a precise and complete analysis of the nasal anatomy. The other reference points of the face, such as the forehead, cheeks, chin and eyes must also be considered in the symmetry analysis. An analysis of the profile should always include an accurate assessment of the chin, the forehead, the mid face and maxilla. A beautiful nose must work harmoniously in the overall picture of the face.

A detailed consultation with an examination of the nose, inside and out, must be carried out before any surgery. In this way, changes in the nasal septum and possible ventilation problems can be identified and taken into account before the operation. In order to achieve a mutual understanding of patients' wishes and the surgical options of the physician, during the consultation, photographs of the joint end-goal will be visualised. The photo comparison helps to check if the perceptions of the patient and the physician match, and to develop and illustrate this common vision. The simulation cannot guarantee exactly how the end result will appear.

After a period of so-called closed-access rhinoplasty, the surgical techniques are once again being more openly promoted and accessed. These methods have the distinct advantage that the surgeon can see the fine structures of the nasal skeleton and accurately and precisely change this under perfect vision. The necessary small incision at the columella heals so well that after a few weeks, it is no longer visible.

A complete rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthetic. A short stay in hospital, usually 1 day, follows the surgery. At the end of the surgery, a splint made of plastic is applied to the nose from the outside to stabilise and protect it. This usually remains for 7-14 days. Depending on the preliminary findings, it may be necessary to wear special plaster strips for 10 more days, following the removal of the splint.

Due to the cartilage lying under the soft nasal tissue, possible swelling, albeit in a milder form, can occur for a few weeks after surgery. Immediately after corrective surgery you will see a significant change in the nose. The final result will first be visible after the complete swelling has gone down, several months later. Even after a year, mild changes can still take place, but the patient usually does not notice this. It should therefore be noted beforehand, that corrective surgery of the nose requires some patience.

Many patients come into counselling because of a nose job, and are not aware that they have additional problems contributing to an inharmonious facial profile - a strong, "runaway" chin, for example. A nose that looks too big in profile, often looks that way because of its proportions in relation to the chin.

There are many possibilities to make your chin more attractive. These are very individual, and can range from liposuction to implantation of silicone chin implants. Such a relatively small, and low risk surgery alone, or as a supplement to a rhinoplasty can be very useful to create a more harmonious facial profile. Most of the implants are inserted through a tiny incision under the chin. For advice about the best options for you, please contact me.

For every operation:

Do not take blood thinning drugs such as aspirin, ASS, Plavix, Warfarin etc, 14 days before the elective surgery!
